WordWave joins Singapore ‘technology lab’
Called the Proof of Concept Technology Lab (POC Tech Lab), the project is being led by Singapore’s Subordinate Court and will run for two years. The overall aim will be to use new technology to make the justice system more efficient and transparent, and ultimately, improve access.
An Advisory Council is also being set up, to provide the POC Tech Lab with strategic direction, give feedback on the latest technological trends, and make recommendations on how these can be applied in practice.
WWIA’s representative on the Advisory Council will be Andrew Brown. Based in the company’s Hong Kong office, Andrew has years of experience in implementing the latest court technology, across Asia and beyond.
“We’re delighted to be invited to take part in this project, which brings together experts in the field of courtroom technology from all over the region,” says Lilian Goh, General Manager of WWIA’s Singapore office. “We believe we’ve got a lot to contribute, having pioneered the use of services like digital audio recording and transcription and real-time reporting, to great effect.”
In fact, WWIA is already working closely with the Singapore court service, providing digital audio recording and transcription (DART) at the Supreme Court. It’s also collaborating with the Singapore Parliament on a project to explore the use of DART – a service that’s been proven to speed up proceedings and cut down on costs at courtrooms around the world, including in Hong Kong and Australia, and which is currently being piloted, with WordWave’s help, at the Court of Appeal (Civil Division) in London.
