Merrill at Brighton Trade Union Conference

Merrill Legal Solutions is a well established Speech to Text (STT) service provider, supplying high quality voice to text communication solutions for deaf and hearing impaired clients. We have been providing these services to our corporate and public sector clients for a number of years by streaming live text directly to customers’ laptops or large plasma screens. Our STT service can be provided either on site alongside the client or remotely using a telephone and the internet.

Our STT service was recently used by a deaf member of the Public and Commercial Services Union (“PCS”) attending the annual PCS Conference in Brighton. The PCS is one of the largest trade unions in the UK and the annual conference is the highlight of the union’s calendar of events and an important opportunity for members’ representatives to meet and socialise.

Merrill Legal Solutions covered the three day conference using on site reporters, providing the client with a personal STT service and also releasing transcripts at the end of each day. Merrill ensured that the client had a point of contact throughout the three days of the conference, whether day or evening, to discuss any issues or further requirements. As well as covering the main conference speeches, Merrill also covered a pre-conference evening dinner for the client which enabled them to fully participate in discussions without having to rely on lip-reading skills. This is an aspect of our STT work which is on the increase as more and more deaf and hearing impaired clients are using our communications support for work-related social events.
